Description
Scenario
Adam Grant discussed three hiring strategies: Hiring for skills, hiring stars, and hiring for culture fit.
A candidate can have every skill you are looking for in a position, and yet still might not be successful at the job. Bringing a new employee into the organization means matching skills to job requirements and matching personalities to workplace culture.
Your HR team has worked hard to build a culture that supports the companys brand and goals. The organization prides itself on open-door discussions between leaders and subordinates; they provide flexible hours and telecommuting; theyve established core values and work lingo that support their employment brand. Your employee value proposition boasts that working for your company is like having a second family.
Your Task
Youre an HR Director working with a recruiter to hire an HR manager, and you need to develop an interview protocol to evaluate whether the job candidates are qualified for the position AND fit the company culture.
Your interview protocol should contain the following information:
- A list of 5 situational or behavioral interview question that elicits information about the persons qualifications
- I encourage you to review your job analysis (Homework #1) to identify KSAs that are relevant. Identify 5 KSAs or competencies, and develop an interview question for each one. If you provide a question that is not a behavioral or situational interview question, you will not receive credit.
- A list of 2-3 questions that allow you to evaluate whether the candidate is a good fit for the company culturally
- Instructions for how an interviewer should complete the interview, including an explanation for how you would evaluate answers to the interview questions.
- Would you use a scale of some sort? Would you take notes? In short, you need to describe how you will document answers to the questions so that you can make comparisons between candidates.
