After watching this video discuss why it is not such a good idea to build close to the coast. If you were the mayor of any coastal city what are some measures you will put in place to prevent people from building along the coast?
If you think it is a great idea to build along the coast defend your position.

It is never good to build so close to the coast because you have mother nature that can come in and take it all away. Weather it is by a hurricane, tornado or even sometimes an earthquake. Some of the ways it can be taken from you is by a gas explosion from an earthquake, or even by a giant wave and rain from an hurricane.
If I was a mayor of any costal city I would put my foot down on saying they can not build near the coast or along it. I would hand out really steep fines if I caught them doing it and would shut them down in a heart beat. Take them to court over it all. I would NOT approve any of there work permits or any of there cite permits and if anyone did they would go to jail and be fired from my office. I would put contractors in jail who went against my rules for the safety of the community. People really need to start thinking safety before money not the other way around. You can always make money a different way but you can NEVER replace a life.

After watching the video, I think it is not a good idea to build along the coast line, even though the view is gorgeous. Erosion plays a large role in the problems that will occur with building along the coast. Over time, the erosion can wear away the area and the property would be destroyed. This is a problem because all of the pieces of the broken house would fall into the ocean, as seen in the video. This would harm the ocean water and marine life. I know that the prices are higher along the coast, but I dont think it is worth the risk. Even if erosion takes a while to happen, something like an earthquake could devastate an area and cause this type of damage to happen.
If I was the mayor I would like to regulate how close people can build to the coast line. I would not let people build too close to the coast because it is too much of a liability over time. I would not even allow a special insurance so that people could build near the coast. It would be hard to prevent people because it is a great real estate area and the people would want a good area to build. But, to help preserve the area, I would have a lot of vegetation planted to help with erosion.
