Description
As the use of Information Technology has exploded, the number of computers has grown exponentially as well. To house all these computers has necessitated the need for more space to house them (bigger Data Centers), a corresponding enormous increase in electricity use to run the devices and electricity to provide air conditioning to keep them cool. In addition, as the devices become old and/or obsolete, disposing of them (including the toxic material which they contain) becomes a major political issue in terms of protecting the environment. The more earth friendly use of computers has come to be known as Green Computing. A technology to reduce the number of computers necessary has been in development for many years but has taken on a real urgency in the last decade. This technology is known as Virtualization and this project is intended to introduce and help you grasp the fundamentals of this technology.
