Description
Google dominates the search engine market. However, there are several alternatives available in the market: www.bing.com and https://duckduckgo.com/
In your first assignment, you need to finish the following tasks:
First, use the SAME query (search term) of your own interests (something you are very familiar with) to evaluate the performance(i.e. ranking of results) of Google, Bing and Duckduckgo
Before searching, please clean the cache/cookies of your computers or even restart the router to receive more organic results. Searching at a public wifi hotspot will be good too.
Do the webpages ranked first ?not the sponsored ads?by the three search engines satisfy your information needs? Were any of the nine other webpages on the first page of results more pertinent to your search?
Then, Use Chrome or MS-Edge’s “Developer’s Tools” to examine THE First ORGANIC Pages returned by the three search engines. Can you find the search terms you just entered from the HTML codes ? Where are they? You need to do a screenshot to indicate/highlight the locations of your search terms.
Third, use the Google’s “site:” operator to search Twitter with the query “Dominican University” (YES, I MEAN OUR UNIVERSITY). On the first page of 10 results, how many of them were “technically” overlapped (i.e. from the same twitter account)? Are there any non-pertinent results there?
Do Bing and Duckduckgo offer the same operator and retrieve similar results as Google?
Compared with Twitter’s own search (https://twitter.com/explore which one is better?
